EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR is an effective form of therapy backed by hundreds of empirically validated and randomized studies for the treatment of trauma.

When I work with individuals and/or couples and the person has an excessive emotional reaction to an issue, or unexpectedly shuts down emotionally, I assess for the possibility of trauma. This excessive reaction likely has roots from the past.

EMDR is a treatment protocol developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. in 1987. By working with eye movement protocol, EMDR reprocesses the debilitating effects of trauma which is stored in the nervous system without the necessity of traditional talk therapy.
